Criterion I: Curricular Aspects
1) What are the main evaluative observations/suggestions made in the first assessment report with reference to Curricular aspects and how have they been acted upon?

The earlier assessment report had commented that the SSR simply repeats the operational aspect of the B. Ed. course.

We have improved on this by providing our STs a variety of experiences by including the CW/ EW activities and by following a variety of methods and techniques of teaching.

2) What are the major quality sustenance and enhancement measures undertaken by the institution since the previous assessment and accreditation.

We have developed the computer laboratory and provided internet facility to both the STs and TEs. Our TEs have started participating more in seminars and conferences for the professional upgrading.

Criterion II: Teaching-Learning and Evaluation
1. What are the main evaluative observations / suggestions made in the first assessment report with reference to Teaching Learning and Evaluation and how have they been acted upon?

Evaluative observations

1) Teaching aids are more conventional
Action Taken
a. STs are encouraged to prepare Computer Assisted Instructions
b. They are sent for the training programme at NSC, where they are trained in preparing simple but effective teaching aids

2) No tutorial system
Action Taken
a. Discussions are carried out before conducting the essays
b. Handouts are provided for some of the topics from the syllabus

3) Audio-visual aids need to be strengthened
Action Taken
a. Computer laboratory has been developed having nine computers with internet facility.
b. STs are given exposure and access to slides and slide projects, CDs, OHP and tape-recorders.

4) Training to faculty for modern curriculum transactions
Action Taken
a. Staff is encouraged to participate in UGC sponsored orientation programmes and refresher courses.
b. They participate in orientation sessions of syllabus revision
c. Training was organized for the Hardware and Software aspects of Computers in co-ordination with COMIT Media, (2008-09).
d. Staff members are encouraged to participate in various workshops and seminars organized at the various B. Ed. Colleges.
e. National level workshop was organized for Training in writing research papers
f. Staff members are encouraged for doing various courses at personal level
5) Remedial teaching

This is done more informally at individual levels

6) Reading Hall too small and no open – access library
Action Taken
a. Supervised library reading is conducted medium wise for overcoming the space constraint.
b. We have developed the libraries method- wise to give easy access to the STs of all seven methods.
c. Open access system has already been introduced in the library.

7) No additional inputs for value education, civic responsibility, personality development, community orientation, learn to learn
Action Taken
For sensitizing to the civic responsibility and community orientation we are conducting CW programme in co-ordination with KEM Hospital where STs actively participate in plus polio drive, AIDS awareness programme, blood donation drive etc .Our STs visits rural areas and adivasi padas for spreading the awareness of health and hygiene issues. We have also undertaken the EW programme of University of Mumbai for developing awareness for the social issues.
It has been observed that these activities have helped in developing confidence, better communication skills, empathy and self reliance in STs.

8) Internal assessment system needs to be more rigorous, objective and transparent
Action Taken
After each terminal exams the STs are given feedback by the examination in-charge along with the Principal. Each TE gives the feedback for his / her respective papers and the critical aspects are discussed in the class.

9) Feedback to be taken about the curriculum and its transactions
Action Taken
STs evaluate their teachers and give the feedback about curriculum transaction, guidance etc. which is then analysed and feedback is given to the staff member by the Principal.

Criterion III: Research, Consultancy and Extension
1. What are the main evaluative observations/suggestions made in the first assessment report with reference to Research Consultancy and Extension and how have they been acted upon?

There is no formal research cell in the college. But we provide services to the schools as well as other educational institutes, when they approach for research guidance. Under this, our PG recognized TEs have guided M. Ed. students of K. J. Somaiya B. Ed. College. College has helped the PSM Department of KEM Hospital in data collection and for conducting surveys in the years, 2002-08 and 2008-09.

2. What are the other quality sustenance and enhancement measures undertaken by the institution since the previous assessment and accreditation.

Our entire teaching staff is fully qualified as per the UGC and NCTE norms. They have also improved their qualifications since last NAAC peer team visit.
The library facilities have been improved by computerizing it and by adding new learning resources, such as journals, educational CDs etc.
The administrative and support staff has been trained in computer skills.

Criterion IV: Infrastructure and Learning Resources
1. What were the evaluative observations made under Infrastructure and Learning Resources in the previous assessment report and how have they been acted upon? 

In the previous report the observation made were-
1) Traditional TA
2) Multiple copies of the text-books in the library
3) Absence of Computer facilities.

To overcome these drawbacks we have acquired educational CDs. Maps are prepared for cartography workshop. Terrace garden is developed. CAPs prepared by the STs are maintained.
Library is equipped by acquiring latest reference books, journals, internet based references and readymade reference material in e-form.
Computer room is developed with 9 computers having internet access. Laptop, note-book , LCD are acquired for bringing about qualitative improvements.

2. What are the other quality sustenance and enhancement measures undertaken by the institution since the previous Assessment and Accreditation with regard to Infrastructure and Learning Resources? 

For the infrastructural improvement necessary repairs have been carried out, painting work has been done. Additional washrooms have been constructed in LCR and staff-room.

Criterion V: Student Support and Progression
1. What were the evaluative observations made under Student Support and Progression in the previous assessment report and how have they been acted upon?

In the evaluative observation it was pointed out that there are no alumni, placement services. Now we are started with alumni though it is not registered. Alumni are involved in college activities whenever possible.
Various organizations approach us and conduct campus interviews. Our STs get employment through this. Similarly schools approach us for teachers, whenever they have vacancies especially through alumni.
Our DSM participants are principals and senior teachers in their respective schools. They also approach us whenever they have vacancies.

2. What are the other quality sustenance and enhancement measures undertaken by the institution since the previous Assessment and Accreditation with regard to Student Support and Progression?

We have started taking the feedback from the STs of various activities conducted in the college. Similarly, our TEs are also evaluated by our STs. These are analyzed and are used for qualitative improvement.
The experiences and the expertise of the DSM participants are utilized to the benefit of our STs.

Criterion VI: Governance and Leadership
1. What were the evaluative observations made under Governance and Leadership in the previous assessment report and how have they been acted upon?

a) Past students play significant role in placement and sharing their knowledge with present batch. They are also invited as resource persons, judges for various events.
b) College has taken initiative in improving infrastructural facilities and repair work, constructional of new toilet, creation of computer lab has done.
c) Institution encourages faculty to take up Ph. D. course and go for higher learning.

2. What are the other quality sustenance and enhancement measures undertaken by the institution since the previous Assessment and Accreditation with regard to Governance and Leadership? 

Some of the staff members have been invited by SCERT for training and as resource persons for training programmes, text-book evaluation is also taken by staff through SCERT.

Criterion VII: Innovative Practices
1. How is the core values of NAAC reflected in the various functions of the institution?

Our institution works for the people in the society, especially at the grass-root level. The vision and mission of the college are kept in mind while organizing programmes and activities in the college.
The EW and CW programmes, sensitize students to their civic responsibilities.
The curricular training given helps our students in developing the critical and logical thinking abilities.
The technological training helps develop the required skills in modern globalised world.
The programmes like visits and lectures are meant for developing the due pride for our country and for developing the sense of vigilant citizenship.
The participation in various co-curricular activities develop the soft skills, communication skills, leadership qualities and the confidence of facing the ever changing world more effectively and efficiently.
